December Newness

This month has been so busy with Christmas right around the corner and working just about seven days a week. The retail world during this time of year is pretty hectic! I can’t wait to share it all with you!

First things first I have purchased several new products this month and tried most of them and I am ready to share my opinions! I tried four new foundations this month, two of them are drug store and two are luxury. The first one I tried was the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, I was on the fence about this one because I am very oily so the “luminous” part of this foundation made me second guess. I wore it with four different primers just to get a feel for the formula, and I am extremely impressed with this foundation. It stayed on my skin without making me extra oily and it looked like skin. Estée Lauder has a foundation that has wonderful reviews and you may already know what foundation I’m talking about… Double Wear. This full coverage foundation is incredibly weightless depending on how you use it. I apply it with a beauty blender in sheer layers and add the coverage where I need it. Now for the two drugstore foundations I picked up one is the Milani Conceal and Perfect Foundation ana the L’Oréal Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation. These two are actually dupes for the luxury foundations I mentioned above. The Milani Foundation is very similar to the Estée Lauder Double Wear, the coverage is full and the formula is smooth. The only difference is the wear time, I do get oily quicker with the Milani. The Vitalist Healthy Elixir from L’Oréal is hydrating like the Liminous Silk but again the wear time is a little different.

There are 4 other complexion products I want to share with you. Personally I am a huge fan of Bobbi Brown products, her bronzing powders are some of the most beautiful colors I have ever used on clients so I purchased one for myself. HOLY WOW. Such beautiful neutral color on my skin that blends so well with a fluffy, tapered powder brush! Who doesn’t love a nice highlight? One more Bobbi Brown product that stole my heart, the Pink Glow Highlighting Powder. Talk about glowing skin! Colorpop has stolen the show with their Super Shock Cheek highlight. This formula is creamy, soft, and adds a beautiful soft glow to any look. When I was at the Houston Galleria a few weeks ago my friend Ashleigh and I went to Macy’s. As soon as I walked in I saw a section for Inglot cosmetics and my jaw dropped. I didn’t even know that brand had a retailer in Houston until that day. I purchased their Sparking Dust, it gives the skin more of a wet sparkly look instead of a natural glow. The second I swatched it I told the consultant I needed it.

There are a lot of eyeshadow products I purchased and I do not regret any of them! The first two I want to talk about are the Pat McGrath Mothership palettes in Subliminal and Sublime. These eyeshadow palettes are heaven! I love the colors especially the glitter toppers. They layer beautifully as well! Urban Decay has eyeshadows called moon dust and I adore all of them but my newest one is Space Cowboy! If you have never tried Space Cowboy you are missing out! It is the perfect glittery champagne color that looks beautiful on its own or with other shadows as well! NARS single Dual Intensity eyeshadow are to die for! I have quite a few of them but this month I purchased Callisto which is a nice neutral silvery color. The pigment is perfect and the color is great for a more cool tone look, I love Space Cowboy on top of this shadow. I picked up two NYX glitters in violet and gunmetal I have a glitter from Makeup Forever that looks EXACTLY like gunmetal from NYX. Speaking of Makeup Forever, if you haven’t tried their star lit powders you need to go to Sephora and try them out! Talk about beautiful shadows! My newest one is the number 19 and it’s an electric blue color that I just couldn’t pass up. This next one is an oldie but a goodie! MAC’s pigment in Tan is a beautiful neutral color that looks great on its own or with a classic Smokey eye. I did get a palette from Maybeline as well, The City Mini Palette in Urban Jungle. I wish it had a few more mattes but for a drug store palette I was pretty impressed! I love the forest green it has!

Anastasia came out with matte lipsticks this year and they are so beautiful! I picked up two colors Dead Roses and Buff. I have a habit of licking my lips throughout the day and I must say these lip sticks stayed in place all day long! They feel a little dry when you first put them on but I didn’t really notice it throughout the day. Also I picked up a gloss by Anastasia as well called Metallic Rose this is a beautiful pink with glitter flecks in it. My next two lip products are from the drug store and the first one is from Milani and it is a metallic liquid lipstick. I bought Pretty Problematic which is a burgundy color and the next one is from Wet N Wild in the color Goth Topic. Goth Topic is definitely a dupe for Vampira by Kat Von D!

I know that was a lot of products but I wanted to share everything with you guys! Let me know what you think and what you would like to see next!

Lavish yourself in Luxury

Have you ever looked at a luxury product and questioned the price? Was it really worth it? Did it add any more value to your makeup bag or collection?

Well…. did it?

I have a few products that I picked out of my collection and in my opinion they were absolutely worth it.

Oh Christian Dior, first fashion in the 40’s and fast forward to 2017 and Christian Dior Makeup is one of the top luxury brands in the world. If you haven’t tried anything from their makeup brand I highly recommend the foundations and of course the lip products are worth melting over. But the Dior Airflash Foundation is the top of my list today. This $62 foundation is worth every penny. It’s unique packaging makes it even more eye catching because it is a spray foundation. If you want a flawless non creasing foundation that lasts all day long, this is your guy. I will say that I wouldn’t use it everyday because you’ll go through it very quickly if you do but it’s great for special occasions!

YSL is also a fashion icon who has a makeup line that is just as luxurious as its name. My favorite products are the lip sticks, glosses, and concealers. Although the trend is all Matte everything, I really enjoy the Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks. The packaging gets me everytime but the product itself is creamy and hydrating and gives a beautiful glow to the lips. I love Matte liquid lipsticks like the next girl but sometimes it’s nice to have soft kissable lips. As for the Touché Eclat concealer it has anti aging ingredients that help fight off aging which also allows the concealer to stay smooth and creamy throughout the day.

Marc Jacobs. A brand so luxurious that it was very hard for me to choose what I was going to post about. The Highliner is at the top of my list, if you haven’t tried these eyeliners you are missing out big time. They are easy to smudge if you want a smokey liner look or a dark precise line. Another favorite of mine is the Le Marc lipstick in the colors Sonic Truth and Slow Burn. These are the perfect nudes for brides or as an everyday lip color. The formula is smooth, pigmented, and long wearing.

A brand that is changing the makeup game for the better is Natasha Denona. You may have heard of her eyeshadows from Youtubers or other bloggers, I  suggest if you haven’t been to Sephora to swatch them yourself get up and do so. The pigment is phenomenal. If there’s anything you should know about me it is how I obsess over eyeshadow. I am picky about pigment, application, and how well it stays on the lid. The second I swatched the colors I immediately purchased a palette. They are just as beautiful when applied with brushes and even mixed together.

Although the price points are higher than some other brands keep in mind that it’s the quality of the product you are paying for. If you want your products to do more for you, then you might want to consider taking a trip to Sephora or a beauty counter and trying a luxury brand.

This was Halloween

I love Halloween. Not because of the scary costumes or movies but more for the fun makeup. This isn’t much of a how to or a review it’s just a post for you to see what Halloween looks I did this month.  I’ve worked A LOT but I enjoyed being able to play in makeup. Take a look!

October Empties

I never thought in just a month and a half I would have ANOTHER box full of empties! But here we are. Some of these products I loved, others not so much. Most of it is skin care and a few makeup items but not too many. So Let’s get started!

First up is the Josie Maran Bear Naked wipes. I like makeup wipes because they are quick and easy, but these wipes didn’t do too much for me. I wear a full face of makeup 5 days a week for work so I need wipes that will remove all the makeup from the surface of my skin before I use my cleanser. I don’t expect my face wipes to deep clean but I do expect them to remove all of the toughest makeup and these just didn’t cut it for me.

The next product is another makeup remover, the Tatcha Pure cleansing oil. I love cleansing oils because a lot of them remove excess dirt, oil, and makeup that get deep in the pores. That is exactly what this cleansing oil does. It removes the toughest waterproof makeup and cleanses the skin while leaving it silky smooth!

My skin is oily and very acne prone, so I tried out the Clinique Acne Solutions Serum. I didn’t care for the serum during the day, it didn’t do much for me then. But at night, now that’s a diffeeent story. At night your skin starts to repair itself, the serum worked wonderfully. When I woke up in the morning, my skin was clear but not dry at all. It’s also anti aging so it fights fine lines and wrinkles as well! If you struggle with adult acne and want something hydrating, anti aging, and acne fighting all at once, I highly recommend this product!

Oh how I love moisturizers! If there is one brand that I am a die hard fan of, it’s Ole Henriksen. Ole himself is such a unique person and he shines through his amazing skin care products. There are two moisturizers that I’ve tried and the first one I’m going to tell you about is the Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator. (INSERT HEART EYE EMOJIS HERE) This moisturizer has AHA’s in it to Control oil and mattify without stripping the oils your skin needs. It is so light weight and beautiful under makeup.

Another Ole Henriksen moisturizer I ran out of is the Sheer Transformation Perfecting Moisturizer. This was the very first Ole Henriksen product I ever tried, I have had 3 of them, I just can’t get enough of it! I love the antioxidant rich, oil free formula, it protects and hydrates the skin wonderfully.

I like to save up my points at Sephora because the 500 point product boxes are amazing! I very rarely spend my points unless its a great skincare box or fragrance mini’s. The box I last picked up was a Caudalie gift I was very impressed with the products it had to offer, especially the Vinosource Creme Sorbet Hydrator. This moisturizer is SO hydrating and creamy but it absorbs into the skin quickly leaving it supple and hydrated. Chamomile is a key ingredient in the formula, it helps reduce redness and calm the skin.

Origins came out with a foaming cleansing mask called By All Greens. This is the perfect mask for truly detoxing and purging your skin. It pulls out toxins, dirt, oil, pollutants, makeup and so much more deep within the layers of your skin that we can’t see. Just as a juice detox cleanses your skin this mask does the same thing. It’s great as a mask but when I used it as a cleanser all it did was continue to cause the purging but no clarifying. Great as a mask just not as a cleanser.

I am a sucker for a good eye cream but this one was not for me. Algenist Power under eye cream is supposed to fight off dark circles, fine lines, and wrinkles. I used this product for about 2 months and didn’t notice a difference at all. My undereye area is dark purple all the time, I am still in search of a life changing eye cream. I have one that I’m trying out now but I won’t mention any names just yet!

There are 3 setting sprays that were sitting in the empties box they are all hot items on the beauty market right now. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea setting spray is nice and hydrating and sets my makeup beautifully. You can prime, set, hydrate, and refresh makeup for up to 12 hours! The algae in the formula helps fight off aging, who doesn’t love the sound of that?! I did have one issue with this product, it wasn’t the formula but the pump was constantly getting stuck and because of that I wasn’t able to spray it all over anymore. I did however sprits it on my beauty blender instead of using water, and it helped keep the glow in my skin that I wanted.

We all know how iconic the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting spray is. I have had several of these guys, and it never lets me down. I work up to 9 hours a day 5-7 days in a row. I also live about 45 minutes away from my job so I have to get ready 2 hours before I have to clock in. I need something to keep my makeup on for 12-14 hours and the All Nighter does exactly that.

Oh Tatcha, how I love you! The Tatcha Dewy Skin mist is the perfect prep and set spray. It is packed with anti aging and deep hydrating ingredients. You are never to young to start taking care of your skin, why not start now?

Now for makeup!

Eyeshadow primer is a must have in my daily makeup routine. More specifically the Too Faced Shadow Insurance is a daily must have for me. I have had 3 tubes of this primer and I never grow tired or bored with it. Eyeshadow just really holds on to the thin formula and stands out. I have never had a problem with my shadow creasing or fading throughout the day.

Of course we can’t live without a little mascara! I have two in my empties box, Too Faced Better than Sex waterproof and the Tarte Tarteist. They both worked pretty well but my favorite of the two is the Tarteist because of the brush. I don’t like my lashes super thick, the spikes on the non fiber brush separate my lashes like no other!

Oh my brows! It took me a long time to use just a brow gel or even use it as a final touch for my brows. This brow gel is a great for natural makeup days and to lay down unruly brow hairs!

Last but certainly not least is a hair care product for that everyone MUST HAVE! Living Proof Restore spray detangles and treats damaged hair. It’s a great leave in product that doesn’t make your hair oily throughout the day.

How to get the perfect look for fall

Fall is here the aroma of pumpkin spice lattes are in the air  and I am ready for dark burgundy lips and warm tone eye shadow. I love fall, it’s probably my favorite season. I love the leaves changing, the fragrance of apple, cinnamon, and pumpkin, and don’t forget the style.

Let’s talk makeup

The eyeshadow palettes that I am dying for right now are my Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette and the MorphexJaclyn Hill Palette. I did write reviews on both palettes. The Subculture Screams fall with the mustard yellows, olive green, and burgundy shadows. Morphe’s Jaclyn Hill Palette is to die for, the color formula and colors are perfect.  What I love the most about this palette is how buttery, creamy, and pigmented these eye shadows are. I won’t go on and on but here are my favorite fall looks created with both palettes.

To get the perfect Shadow looks you want to start with an eyeshadow primer or concealer to hold the shadow color. When it comes to the crease I like to start light and work my way to darker colors. This allows the shadows to stay soft, smooth, and perfectly blended. Once my crease is where I want it, I like to add my darkest color on the outer corner of my eye and underneath my eye as a liner. From there I decide if I’m going to wing out my liner or not. Add a deep lip or a cool tone nude and you are ready for the day!

Hurricane Harvey: Real Beauty Real Women Drive

A few weeks ago Hurricane Harvey destroyed my home town and surrounding cities. I was lucky to have not had any damage to my home or vehicle. Others were not so lucky and face a long road of recovery ahead of them. The first day I was able to get in my car and drive around my city I was astonished. People were tearing down their homes and trying to salvage what they could from all the mess Harvey left behind. There were police officers guarding neighborhoods trying to keep looters away. The US National Guard was called in to help as well. I saw all of the photos on Facebook and Instagram of the city going underwater within days. The roads I drive down daily looked like lakes and my friends homes were flooding and they were evacuating on air mattresses and boats.

One good thing came from this storm.

Unity.

A city coming together to help those who lost everything, churches opening up as shelters and distribution centers, neighbors being well, neighborly and offering assistance in any way possible. People from Louisiana were traveling to help rescue those who were stuck on roofs escaping rising water, a community that shook the world with its generosity.

I began to pray.

I prayed that God would use my talents and gifts to help others. A simple prayer turned into something divine. Once I was able to go back to work I met a client, Jacqueline,  while helping her with her products she told me of a non profit that she works for called Real Beauty Real Women. This non profit is putting together comfort kits for the women in Houston shelters. The kits include a makeup bag, unused makeup products, and toiletries. As she was telling me what she was doing, a huge smile filled my face.

I told her that our meeting was not a coincidence and that I was going to help her in any and every way that I could. As the week went on I asked on social media and at work for donations for Real Beauty Real Women. So many people were excited to help! I had people mailing makeup bags and makeup right to my house, dropping donations at my house, meeting me, donating money, and putting products in a box at my job. As the week went on my bedroom was FULL of donations.

After 4 trips to my car, the donations were on their way to be given to women who needed them the most. A few people didn’t see makeup bags and products as a need, maybe not. But you know, it helped them feel great. If you wear makeup, you know what a difference a little mascara and lipstick makes.

Jaclyn Hill Palette Review

It does not surprise me that the Jaclyn Hill Palette has been consistently sold out on Morphebrushes.com. It was taking far too long for me to order my own so I borrowed my bestfriend’s palette to do a review. HOLY WOW! The moment I swatched this palette on my arm I was in love. After the first swatch my jaw dropped.

The colors that were just screaming my name were Pool Party, Jada, Diva, Enchanted, Twerk, and Jacz. I am a lover of colorful shadows because they aren’t your everyday simple browns. You can do so much with them. You can have a pop of color on your water line, a pop of color in the inner corner of your eye, you can go full out with a super colorful blue and purple eye. I mean the possibilities are endless and they are at your fingertips.

I do however, wish there were a few more cooler matte shades in the palette to go with some of the ideas I had. But if you know anything about Jaclyn Hill it’s that she loves her warm tones. I’ve been watching her on YouTube since she was in her apartment with almost no lighting. To watch her grow in her career is amazing. From Champagne Pop to her own Palette with Morphe, I can’t wait to see what’s next! I have mad respect for Jaclyn because she is a makeup artist, not a self proclaimed artist but she worked for MAC. I feel like she really understands what the beauty world needs and what it struggles with.

If you haven’t got your hands on this palette I encourage you to wait on it to come back in stock because it might change your beauty game! Go on, create what you love with the colors you love.

Travel Essentials

A few weeks ago we went to Lake Charles Louisiana to visit our friend Jay Lowder and hear him preach at a church in that area. As I was packing my backpack I was thinking about the beauty products I would be taking with me. So here’s what I brought along!

When I’m traveling I like to have multi purpose products in my makeup bag. I find that if I carry single purpose products something gets lost or it just gets to crowded. My Real Techniques sponge always makes it into my makeup bag for foundation and Concealer. I choose this one over my beauty blender because of its density I feel like I use less product.

Usually I don’t use a super mattifying foundation however I don’t like traveling with my Laura Mercier  setting Powder because it is WAY too messy. So I usually choose a Matte foundation to travel with. I like the maybeline fit me Matte + Poreless Foundation because I never have to do touch ups.

The Anastasia contour kit is PERFECT for traveling because the packaging is small and easy to carry around. It also has the best Bronzing, contour, and highlight colors for daytime and evening.

My go to traveling  brush is the Mr. Right by Toofaced. It has a bow tie, you read correctly, a bow tie. It’s super cute but if you move the bow tie up, to make the brush more dense and you can use it for Blush, contour, and highlight.

For eyeshadow I take my Urban Decay Ultimate Basics palette. All of the colors are Matte and I have all the colors I need for a day time or nighttime look.

These are the products that always make the cut into my travel makeup bag. Everything else kind of varys on what formulas I’m loving or if I get new brushes or something. If you’re going on a road trip or traveling anywhere be mindful of the activities you’ll be doing and what products will have more than one purpose.

August Favorites

This month I’ve been using basically the same products everyday. I’m excited to share what I’ve been loving this month with you guys. Usually it’s hard for me to stick to one product for an entire month because I like to switch it up a bit. But this month I’ve really been paying attention to what I use and how often.

Skincare first of course!

The first product on my list is the Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil. Even though I’m oily I really like cleansing oils to remove my makeup. This cleansing oil gently melts away makeup (waterproof as well) and impurities from the skin leaving it soft and clean. I really like that it is light and thin unlike others that I’ve tried out in the past.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing  Clay Mask is my favorite mask right now. Tea Tree Oil is an oil used to help deep clean and kill bacteria in the skin. YES PLEASE! My skin is very problematic and oily. This green cooling mask is everything I have ever wanted in a skin care product. If you only have problems in certain areas you can also use this mask as a spot treatment.

Before foundation I have been using the Benefit Porefessional primer. This primer fills in pores and creates a very smooth surface for your foundation. It helps to mask the texture on my skin and keeps my foundation on longer than expected.

We all have our go to foundations, this month mine has been the Dior Airflash Spray Foundation. WOW. If you have never tried this beauty, it is worth the trip to Sephora or a counter. I have never used such a flawless foundation in my life. The weartime is phenomenal and it stays smooth all day long. Don’t let the spray packaging scare you, just spray it on a dense foundation brush and apply on your skin. You will not be disappointed!

Tarte Shape Tape concealer (Exclusive to Ulta) has made a huge dent in the beauty world with its amazing coverage, blendability, and of course the versatility with shades. I love this gel concealer, the consistency is wonderful, it covers every imperfection, and doesn’t crease under my eyes.

Kat Von D has made such a great name for her brand. But her setting spray has worked wonders for my makeup game this month. It has cucumber in the formula to keep the skin looking nice and fresh. The hydrating formula allows your makeup to set without looking dry and also adds a wear time of 24 hours to my makeup.

Those of us who are oily understand the importance of a good setting powder. I stumbled upon the Makeup Forever Super Matte Loose Powder, I was skeptical at first but gave it a shot and I’m so glad I did. I’m not usually one to use a ton of powder on my skin because I still like to look hydrated. So the word “Super Matte” scared me a bit. I wore it once and I was hooked, it is extremely smooth and flawless, blurs imperfections, and sets foundation better than any other setting powder I’ve ever used.

Tarte blushes don’t look like much when you open them. They look dull in color until you apply them. Sephora’s birthday gift this year offers the Tarte blush Paaarty and a lip color. The blush is a beautiful soft pink that adds a bit of color to your cheeks and is perfect for everyday makeup looks.

Now lets talk about eyes!

If you’ve read my last post or follow me on Instagram you know I have been LOVING the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette. The colors and pigment are amazing and you can create soft everyday looks and sexy bold smokey looks as well. You do however need to know that you have to place the color where you want it and then blend it out.

Another Kat Von D product that I have loved from the beginning of Kat Von D makeup time is the Tattoo Liner in Trooper. Trooper is well,  a trooper! It stays put all day long, doesn’t smear, move, or disappoint me in any way. This is THE DARKEST LINER EVER.

A lot of people don’t see the hype of mascara and some think that they are all the same. I’ve been grabbing for my Urban Decay Perversion Mascara more than anything recently. I love that it is just enough length and volume while it holds my lashes’ natural curl. I don’t have a problem with smearing or smudging throughout the day, my days are usually about 14 hours long.

What products have you been loving this month?

Subculture Palette Review

  • We’ve all seen the negative reviews and videos on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette. If you follow me on Instagram you already know how much I ADORE this palette! I’ve used it non stop since I’ve purchased it and fell in love at first swatch! While reading reviews and watching YouTube videos I took mental notes on the possible user errors that could be happening.

My first thought was, what Primer did they use?
I went back to the negative videos and watched as they used the thickest concealer they could find as a primer. The next question that popped in my head was “what is their technique like?” So I watched again as they use a blending brush and immediately start blending it back and forth in the crease.

I’m sure you’ve all heard of primer for your face but maybe you haven’t heard of primers for your eyeshadow. I like the Too Faced Shadow Insurance because it prevents your eyeshadow from creasing and is not oily at all. Another thing to consider is that this is an artistry palette, the shadows are meant to place and then blend. I used a small dense brush, the number 18 from Sephora Collection  to place and the number 19 from Sephora Collection to blend the outer edges. These colors are gorgeous for all seasons and all occasions.
